    Monthly security patches

    Android Q

Let’s discuss whether Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are eligible for Android Q and if yes, when can we expect the Android Q update to begin rolling out for the 2018 flagships.

    Android Q release date

Here’s all you need to know about the expected release date of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S9.

    • Both S9 and S9+ are eligible for Android Q
    • The release date hasn’t been announced yet for S9 Android Q update
    • Global and some US S9 handsets may receive Android Q beta in January 2020
    • The stable Android Q update is expected in mid-February 2020
    • S9 and S9+ at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular should get stable Android Q update March-April 2020

The Galaxy S9 is fully eligible for the Android Q update. Google is working hard to add some great new features to Android Q, and that makes the update very worthy.

Expect the Android Q beta to becomes available for global and US variants of the Galaxy S9 sometime in Jan-Feb 2020, around the same the stable Galaxy 10 Android Q update begins rolling out for the users.

When will Galaxy S9 get Android Q update?

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and S9 modelAndroid Q release date
    GlobalFebruary 2020 (estimated)
    AT&TMarch-April 2020 (estimated)
    SprintApril 2020 (estimated)
    T-MobileMarch-April 2020 (estimated)
    VerizonMarch-April 2020 (estimated)
    US CellularApril 2020 (estimated)
    US UnlockedApril 2020 (estimated)
    CanadaApril 2020 (estimated)

The global S9 models are expected to receive the stable Android Q update before the US and Canadian models, beginning January 2020.

With the S8 Pie rollout, we saw that T-Mobile and AT&T were first to begin the rollout, quickly followed by Verizon, but nearly all the carries were able to release the last major update for the S8 in short space of each other. We could see something similar happen with the S9 Android Q update release too. If that happens, all the S9 handsets should be running Android Q before the end of April 2020.

The S9’s Android Q release couldn’t happen together with the Note 9 Android Q update, just like S8’s Pie rollout happened with Note 8’s, but only after Samsung is done rolling out Android Q for Galaxy S10 Plus, S10, and S10e and Galaxy Note 10.

Let’s just hope Samsung is able to roll out Android Q for Galaxy S10 without any issues as that will not only ensure quicker release for the S9 and S9 Plus, but also a bug-free experience.

    One UI 2.0 update

The S9 will also receive an updated custom interface in the form of One UI 2.0 as part of the Samsung Android Q update.

It’s rumored that the Galaxy S11 will feature an even newer version in One UI 2.1, but the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy Note 9 will receive One UI 2.0.

The 2017 flagships, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, and Galaxy Note 8, won’t be updated to One UI 2.0 and Android Q, in case you are wondering. No leaks are available for the new UI right now, so we have no idea how One UI 2.0 will look and feel like.
